Sexual Abuse

If your heart has known the pain of sexual abuse, then we’d consider it our great honor to share the love and healing of Jesus Christ with you. The wounds of abuse are deep, and the shame of this experience can drive you to isolation.

Thanks Kathy!
I think I just wanted to learn more about it before I fully commit to it. I'm gonna follow up on the resources you gave me. I appreciate your response.

AnDraea, It was John Bradshaw in 1992 called Homecoming: Reclaiming and Championing Your Inner Child He wrote a series of self help books and
was very popular. It was his work where I first became acquainted with
the concept...others have followed behind him in works related to
this subject. Kathy

AnDraea,

What I know of inner child journaling, it is one form of therapy...about a decade old..as your therapist may have told you it is a journey into your childhood events associated with who you are now and the problems which face you
today as an adult. Its one perspective of therapy. I see your hesitancy as
if you do not feel you need to go there or question the therapeutic value
of going there. I will give you a link from google that may give you
an idea of what inner child journaling is about:
http://www.livestrong.com/article/14692-inner-child/#JUMP9

The following is info that is pro inner child therapy and suggests that
it is growing at this time in the counseling of childhood abuse(s).
http://www.aest.org.uk/innerchild/
Back in the 90s their was a man who practised therapy and wrote books
that was the first time I had heard of this type of therapy.
Hope this helps,
Kathy

Hello everyone, i have a question. I am new to this site and somewhat new to the recovery process. i just started seeing a counselor who wants me to do inner child journaling as part of my therapeutic process. I don't wanna do it yet because I don't know enough about it. I do keep a journal, but for some reason I don't have a good feeling about doing this type of journaling.

Do any of you do it, and can you tell me more about it, and whether you would recommend it or not.
Thanks!

I thought someone posted that they are a cutter..I thought it was Acacia?
Anyway I wanted that person to know that I had worked as a lay counselor
with a teen cutter a few years ago. I found a good resource of informaton
regarding some of the issues surrounding those who do self injury for
any one who might need this. Copy the link and paste it on your search.
I think you will find its good sound information. God bless you, kathy

Hey Acacia! I encourage you to go to the Library for HIAC (Healing Is A Choice). You can make notes in a notebook. I'd suggest noting what page each note is from so you can go back and find the paragraph you noted. If you decide you want your own copy.....then buy it. It could take you forever to find a certain book at a swap meet.

I agree the Bible is hard to understand. It is, however, the greatest most positive mental attitude book ever written. I don't know of many people that can sit and read the Bible and fully understand. That's why Bible Studies are so helpful. You Do Not have to share your secrets, but you will learn the teachings of the Bible. In no time at all, you will be be come more comfortable and more knowledgeable.

A Bible believing and Bible teaching church is extremely important! If your chuch isn't like that I encourage you to visit other churches. You say you don't know why you go to church. The reasons, behind all of us, going to Church should be to worship and praise our Heavenly Father ~ to learn from the teachings in the Bible ~ to feed and nuture our souls ~ for fellowship with the church body ~ and to pray for each other in our body. We beleive that the building we meet in is NOT the church. The "people" make up the church. (can anyone else out there think of more reasons?)

Good for you Acacia for vowing to trust God for everything this month! Dr. Randy Carlson of The Intentional Liviving Radio Talk Show would be proud of you. I am! He trys to encourage others to live intentionally, even if it is only one intentional thing a day, week or month. Steve Arterburn's show is called New Life Live.

If you can't listen to New Life Live or Intentional Living check them out online. They have archives of shows and you can just about find any subject you want.

Don't know what Bible you are reading but there are some written so that we can understand what they are saying. The Message is a great one. I am using the Life Recovery Bible. It goes right along with the 12 Steps. I love it! I haven't learned how to fully use it yet. Steve A. and David Stoop have edited it. That's what it says on the box.....how do you edit the Bible? : ) What it is, actually, are a lot of added bonuses! There are 12 Step Devotionals ~ Serenity Prayer Devotionals ~ Recovery Principle Devotionals ~ Recovery Profiles ~ Recovery Notes ~ Recovery Reflections ~ Recovery Themes. Plus much more. I think everyone in recovery should be using it. It's great!

Do you think Steve would pay me for Public Relations? : ) I tell everyone about him and the others on his show.....and Randy......and Charles Stanley, and....! The list goes on and on. : ) Sometimes Steve goofs off on the show.....well, I should say sometimes he doesn't goof off.....but he has a deep, wonderful insight....as do the others. They are all my heroes.

I can give you the names of a few "Sexual Abuse Books." if you'd like.

I understand how you are having a hard time with trusting God because your DAD was not trustworthy. God is, though, and he is our Heavely Father..... nothing like our earthly fathers. It will take some time, maybe, but you have to stop comparing God with your dad. It is a natural thing to happen, even if it is sub-concious. From what I read it is one of our biggest barriers between us and God.

I was going to list some other books, but I will leave that for another time. I really hope you get HIAC right away. I know you will not be disappointed. There are lots of great books out there. It is incredible how they all say about the same thing but you learn something different, from each. It amazes me that some of these authors just keep the words coming. It has got to be the Holy Spirit working through them.....it just does.

I promised myself that I would keep this short, for a change, but I couldn't. There goes that Holy Spirit again! : ) I certainly can't come up with this stuff all on my own.

I will be praying, especially, for your session with your counselor tomorrow.

Take good care of yourself. Oh no......another thought.....speaking of taking good care of yourself does anyone know you injure yourself? If there is one that knows, perhaps you could call them when you feel like you might harm yourself.
Then they could hopefully talk you out of it. Does that make sense?

Love, hugs and prayers...........judi

Hi Judy, I will try to find the book at a book swap meet or just break down and buy it in a store. I haven't fully trusted God ever. It's strange - I come from a family where my dad was the preacher and I was always in church, but since I have grown up, sure, I still go to church, but I don't know why. I was always told how to believe, never really figuring out why. But I'm searching again....this month I made a vow to Him that I would trust Him this month in everything that I do. I'll say that it's been quite difficult. I haven't really started to read the Bible again - as I have a hard time understanding what it says. Any ideas where one can start reading?

Good Morning to You!

What a great idea your friend has! Go for it. Still encourage you to read Healing Is A Choice.

It isn't clear to me...do you trust fully in God? You can you know.....He loves you and wants you to have inner peace and to live a Christ like life. Everything is possible with God on your side. It doesn't hurt to have a few friends on your side too! That....you do!

Don't forget to pray for the Holy Spirit to guide and direct you. You are in great Hands!

Dear Heavenly Father, please help Acacia in her writing and in her talking to her counselor. Please help her to relax, in You, so that she will be successful in what she is about to do. Thank You for what You have done in her life already and for what you are about to do. In Jesus name.....Amen.

God is blessing you! Hugs and prayers.......judi
